ABOUT OUR TEACHERS
New Morning School provides enriching teaching opportunities. The continuity of the teaching staff and student population has resulted in a stable, yet evolving program. Through in-service training and professional conferences, the teachers apply the latest research findings in the classroom. Summer 2005 and winter 2006 workshops on brain research and learning reinforced and expanded the teachers' repertoire of brain-friendly practices. In addition, our teachers routinely attend conferences, seminars and inservices on topics ranging from math education to preventing bullying.
Classroom teachers instruct in areas of their specialties. Teachers of science, Spanish, music, gym and art have specialized backgrounds in their content areas. A rigorous application process for teachers stresses not only their educational backgrounds, but also their experience working with students in a child-centered approach. New Morning School teachers are capable of embracing a developmental approach to learning where teacher-directed activities balance student-chosen tasks. They are well-versed in the academics covered in all grades as they plan for multi-age classrooms with students functioning at a range of academic abilities. The teachers strive to help their students become self-learners, problem-solvers and students capable of working with others. Most important, they have the natural ability to nurture children, responding to their emotional and social needs in a supportive, yet firm manner.
The elementary and middle school classes are team-taught. Teachers collaborate to provide the best educational opportunities for students. Teachers meet regularly to coordinate lessons and to plan activities.
